Sometimes we compliment strangers or people we barely know more than we compliment our own family members. Many times, a person will tell a co-worker what a great job they did, but when their own spouse excels, they don’t say a word. We should always make it a priority to compliment and encourage our own family members first.

The dialogue is spoken in the ancient Aramaic language, along with Latin and Hebrew. In the Garden of Gethsemane near the Mount of Olives, Jesus (James Caviezel) is betrayed by Judas Iscariot (Luca Lionello). Jesus is condemned to death for blasphemy and brought before Pontius Pilate (Hristo Naumov Shopov), the Roman governor of Judea, for sentencing. The roaring crowd demand his death, so Pilate orders his crucifixion. Jesus is severely beaten and made to carry his cross up to Golgotha, the hill outside Jerusalem, where he is nailed to the cross. Romanian theatrical actress Maia Morgenstern plays Mary, Mother of God, and Italian superstar Monica Bellucci plays Mary Magdalene. Amid much controversy involving Gibson and various religious organizations, The Passion of the Christ received an international theatrical release in February of 2004. There once was a prophet named Elijah. A prophet is someone chosen by God to speak His words. A prophet’s message is meant to bring people closer to God but they must be willing to listen.Elijah lived in a time much later than King Solomon. While Elijah was alive the people of God were worshiping other gods. Their king and queen were called Ahab and Jezebel. These two were very bad. They had led the people away from God.Elijah finally challenged the priests of Jezebel to a contest. He told King Ahab, “You were wrong to follow this false god Baal. Send me eight hundred and fifty of the prophets who eat at your wife’s table. Then we will see whose god is for real!”The time had come for God to work a miracle so great, His people could no longer doubt who the true God was. For the last three years, the people had heard their king and queen say, “Baal will bring you rain. Just wait and see.”No matter how much the people sacrificed and prayed, though, no rain had fallen. That was because Baal was a nothing god. Only the Lord God could bring rain to the thirsty land. He wanted to prove to the people through Elijah that He was the only God they should worship.Elijah told the priests of Baal to kill a bull. They should lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it. He would do the same with his bull and pile of wood. “Call on your god to light a fire under the bull, and I will call on my God! The God who answers with fire is the real God.”All the people agreed that this was a very fair test. The priests of Baal tried and tried. They prayed from morning until noon, “Oh Baal, answer us.” But there was no answer. They danced and shouted louder and louder. They jumped around the altar. But still there was no answer. No fire burned the wood beneath their bull.Then it was Elijah’s turn. He had four large jars of water poured over the altar. He did this three times until the trench was full. Syrian armed opposition’s military chief caused over 1,000 Christians to flee the west Syrian town of Qusayr, adding to fears that believers may be forced out of Syria, reports Catholic News Agency.The Christian communities fear being targeted, destroyed or driven out,” said Neville Kyrke-Smith, Aid to the Church in Need’s U.K. director. “We all need to stand in prayer and solidarity now.”Kyrke-Smith, who returned from Lebanon on June 11, told CNA that the report of Christian flight echoes the concerns he heard from bishops, priests, and religious communities concerned about Christians’ fate in neighboring Syria.“The message time and again was ‘please do not forget the Christians of the Middle East,’” he reported.Syrian opposition military chief Abdel Salam Harba had given an ultimatum for Christians to leave Qusayr, a town near Homs, by June 8. Some mosques in the city repeated the message in announcements from their minarets, Fides news agency reports.Only 1,000 Christians remained in the town, which was home to 10,000 Christians before the conflict began between the Syrian government and opposition forces.The reasons for the latest ultimatum are unclear. The Obama administration said Tuesday that Russia is sending attack helicopters to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime and warned that the Arab country’s 15-month conflict could become even deadlier.Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the U.S. was “concerned about the latest information we have that there are attack helicopters on the way from Russia to Syria.”She said the shipment “will escalate the conflict quite dramatically.”Clinton’s comments at a public appearance with Israeli President Shimon Peres augured poorly for a peaceful solution to Syria’s conflict. Grasshoppers turn into brown, crop-chomping clouds of swarming locusts? Serotonin, according to a study published this week in Science. Researchers from universities in the UK and Australia found that that neurotransmitter (a chemical compound that sends impulses between nerve cells and affects everything from sleep to aggression in humans) spurs a cascade of Dr. Jekyll-to-Mr. Hyde–like changes in at least one species of grasshopper — the desert locust(Schistocerca gregaria). This species is infamous for wreaking havoc from Africa to Asia. Knowing what causes this swift metamorphosis may help governments and farmers develop methods to control future locust outbreaks with chemicals that would suppress the offending serotonin. It took just two to three hours for timid grasshoppers in a lab to morph into gregarious locusts after they were injected with serotonin. Conversely, if they were given serotonin blockers, they stayed solitary even in swarm-inducing conditions. “These little guys changed from a shy creature that actively avoided making contact with other grasshoppers [into a creature] actively seeking out other insects and joining a gang,” says study co-author Malcolm Burrows, a zoology professor at Cambridge University in England. And we’re not just talking about a gaggle of grasshoppers: Just last year, a swath of locusts more than three and a half miles (six kilometers) long tore through Australia, devastating crops in its path.”They eat everything in sight,” says Sean Mullen, an assistant professor of evolutionary genetics at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., about swarming locusts.When these insects go into swarm mode, they don’t just get super social, they also completely change physically, becoming stronger, darker and much more mobile, says study co-author Swidbert Ott, a research fellow at Cambridge. In fact, he says, the before-and-after bugs look so different that, until the 1920s, they were assumed to be two unique species.In the wild, swarms usually appear after a rainy period followed by a time of drought. After rains, populations of grasshoppers explode, Burrows says, because there is food aplenty. But when the land becomes parched and grass scarce, the populations get pushed into smaller and smaller areas, becoming more packed as desirable pasture diminishes, he says. At a certain point of density, the swarm-inducing serotonin gets triggered and the locusts set off en masse to find greener pastures. After that, few things — other than an end to the food supply or an ocean — can stop them. Burrows says that locusts can switch out of swarm mode, though it takes days rather than hours. He notes, however, that the about-face rarely happens in the wild, because the offspring of locusts that breed while swarming are born swarmers. Today, locust invasions are controlled with pesticides that also wipe out other insects, note Burrows and Ott. This new research, however, paves the way for development of a chemical that would specifically inhibit serotonin production in the solitary grasshoppers, says Hojun Song, a postdoctoral researcher at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.But remember, as Kung Fu’s Master Po advised his young charge in the 1986 movie, “Do not go in fear, Grasshopper.” Of the approximately 8,000 species of grasshoppers, only about 10 of them are likely to morph into swarming locusts, Burrows says. But, Song adds, more research should be conducted to determine whether other types of locusts also get hopped-up on serotonin.
